Homemade Low-Carb Ketchup

Yes, regular store bought Ketchup contains actually quite a bit of sugar, up to 5g of sugar in a single tablespoon! I’ve tried most of the sugarfree versions that are out there and have been rather disappointed. I’ve found that I get a tastier and healthier (and much cheaper!) version when I make it myself with my Homemade Low-Carb Ketchup recipe. You can spice it up as it suits you with more chili and enjoy only 1g netcarbs per tablespoon!

Equipment

  • small saucepan
  • immersion blender

Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 14 oz. can of chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Brown Erythritol
  • 4 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp blackstrap molasses
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • pinch of ground ginger, allspice, cinnamon & cloves

Instructions

  • Sauté the onion and garlic in the olive oil over medium high heat until fragrant and soft, about 6 minutes.
  • Add all of the other ingredients and stir over medium high heat until bubbling.
  • Turn down the heat to low and simmer without a lid for 30-45 minutes until thickened.
  • Remove the bay leaf and blend with an immersion blender until smooth. (If you don't have an immersion blender, you can carefully pour the mixture up in your regular blender and blend until smooth.)
